Sunergy Systems helps Oregon winery Harness the Energy of the Sun!

Sunergy Systems is thrilled to have had the opportunity to help Crawford Beck Vineyard in Amity, Oregon demonstrate their commitment to environmentally sustainable business practices by installing a 17.28 kW photovoltaic solar array for them. The project was partially funded by a renewable system energy grant awarded by the Rural Development Program of the United States Department of Agriculture. The winery engages in other green practices such as natural fertilizing, using biofuels in farm machinery, and farming techniques that promote ecological diversity, so going solar was a natural choice for them. More information about Crawford Beck Vineyard’s commitment to the environment can be found at their website: www.crawfordbeck.com/Growing_Green.php.

Solar power has the potential to greatly reduce the agricultural industries’ ecological footprint. By going solar, farms and ranches can reduce their reliance on limited, polluting fossil fuels and promote national energy independence. Sunergy Systems is proud to be helping agricultural businesses in Washington and Oregon become more environmentally friendly and save money on their utility bills.

New Federal Tax Credit Makes Solar More Affordable than Ever for Home Owners!

New Federal Tax Credit Makes Solar More Affordable than Ever for Home Owners!

October is national energy awareness month and this year we have a lot to celebrate! Earlier this month congress passed the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, which included the most significant legislation to ever affect the solar industry.

The new law is great news for home owners who are considering saving money and helping the environment by going solar. The legislation removes the $2000 cap on the tax credit that was previously in place for residential customers. This means that home owners who install a solar electric and/or solar hot water system after January 1st, 2009 can now receive a tax credit for the full 30% of the total cost of their solar system, where as before the credit was limited to $2000. This change will result in much more significant tax savings for homeowners and greatly reduce the time it takes for their solar system investment to start paying them back. This means that installing a solar power system or solar hot water system in your home is now more affordable than ever.

This new law is also great news for the solar industry! The new legislation extends the 30% investment tax credit that homes and businesses can use to offset the cost of their solar systems another eight years. Knowing that the tax credit will be in place for the next eight years allows solar companies to plan for the growth that this powerful financial incentive will create and staff accordingly. This law will stimulate much needed job growth in the renewable energy industry. According to data from Solarbuzz, passage of this legislation could now unlock over 1.5 gigawatts of US photovoltaic projects waiting to proceed. Here at Sunergy Systems we are gearing up to double our installation crew to meet the demand from smart consumers who want to invest in their future and the future of the planet by adopting clean, renewable energy.

While it is good to know that the federal tax credit will be in place for the next eight years, Washington State’s current incentives are set to expire in six years and there is no certainty that they will be extended after that. This means that now is a great time to start harnessing the power of the sun and owning your energy. If you have been considering going solar, take advantage of this landmark legislation and contact us today at 206-297-0086.

Solar Electric / Photovoltaic

Commercial PV Systems: Commercial, industrial and municipal customers that install qualifying new PV systems can receive a cash incentive of $500 per installed kW, up to $10,000 for pre-approved qualified systems.

Residential PV Systems: Customers may choose a cash incentive of $500 per installed kW, up to $2,500, for pre-approved, qualified new systems. Optionally, customers may apply for a 2.9% APR loan of up to $25,000 to finance the installation instead of the cash incentive. The loan option cannot be combined with the cash incentive on a single system. See the Program Handbook for full details on loan and credit qualifications and restrictions.

Qualifications and Restrictions: Photovoltaic systems must use new UL listed equipment and be grid-tied to the PUD. The Customer must include a Net Metering Agreement with their application to be eligible for cash incentives or residential loans. More information about net metering can be found here. PUD Rate Schedule 200 for net metering can be viewed by clicking here.

Systems must be installed on Customers’ premises with a PUD account in good standing. For complete system and customer qualifications, please see the Program Handbook.

Solar Hot Water

Commercial SHW Systems: Commercial, industrial and municipal customers that install qualifying new solar hot water systems can receive a cash incentive of $500 per system.

Residential SHW Systems: Customers may choose a cash incentive of $500 per installed system. Optionally, customers may apply for a 2.9% APR loan of up to $14,000 to finance the installation instead of the cash incentive. Qualifications and Restrictions: To be eligible for incentives, the SHW system must supplement an existing electric hot water system. Solar hot water systems must use manufactured new equipment with SRCC OG 100 rating to be eligible for cash incentives or loans.

Systems must be installed on existing or new buildings with a PUD account in good standing. For complete system and customer qualifications, please see the Program Handbook.

Solar Homes Sell Faster than Non-Solar Homes!

Solar Homes Sell Faster than Non-Solar Homes!

With so many markets seeing depressed home values and sluggish homes sales these days, the good news is that homes with solar electric and/or solar hot water systems outsell homes without them. If you are considering selling your home, investing in a solar system would be a great way to gain a competitive edge in the market.

According to the U.S. DOE’s office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, a home with solar will sell twice as fast as a home without solar – even in depressed markets1.

This is due to the demand for energy efficient homes. Home owners realize the importance of both saving money on utility bills in challenging economic times and in helping protect the environment. Solar power has great marketing value and the demand for solar homes far exceeds the supply. California housing developer Lenar homes found that homes in eight of their communities sold at an average 1.9 homes each month since 2006. A ninth solar community sold at an average of 4.6 homes sold per month over the same time period. 2

Solar homes also appreciate in value faster! According to Shea Homes, the value of California homes with solar went up 55% while homes without solar power systems went up 45% in value during the same time period3.

257 solar homes in one Clarum housing development sold within one year, rather than within two years as expected. Plus they sold for $100,000 to $200,000 more than predicted!

Increased home value results in immediately recouping the costs of going solar!

The value that solar power offers home owners translates into faster increases in home value and in quicker sell times. Saving money over time by avoiding soaring utility rates makes sense to budget conscious consumers.

A study by ICF Consulting that illustrates this. The study explains that saving $1 a year on energy costs adds $20 to your home’s value4. In other words, saving $1,000 per year increases your home’s value by $20,000.

Even if you are not considering selling your home, going solar is one of the smartest home investments you can make!
